Tank Safety

DON'T Do Its  for polyethylene tanks...

1. Fuel storage of gasoline

2. High temperature processing, water or chemicals above 140F

3. Atmospheric tanks; ( poly, fiberglass and steel ) are designed for atmospheric hydrostatic pressure only and must be fully vented with no resistance to air coming into the tank (pump out) or air leaving it  (delivery loading).

4. Never pressurize an atmospheric tank with AIR or you may create your very own UFO

5. Never pressurize a plastic tank, unless it is specifically designed for pressure.

The best things about a Polyethylene tank is little or No Maintenance, Low Cost and utilization as liquid storage containers for drinking water, rainwater and aggressive chemical storage.

Plastic poly tank shapes include:  CVF Closed top vertical Flat bottom tanks; CVC Closed top Vertical Cone bottom tanks;    HZ  or Horizontal Cylindrical and Elliptical Tanks - Sizes from 50 - 15,000 Gallons

NSF Goals & Tank Overview , Polyethylene tanks "Polytanks"  provide dependable long term drinking water storage tanks with 3 & 5 year warrantees  standard.

10 year warranties for water Storage tanks are available, our Polyethylene tanks are made from NSF 61 and FDA approved resins. White for indoors, black for outdoors.

Cross-linked polyethylene is not FDA/NSF but is available for higher temperature and additional chemical resistance with some chemicals.

ASTM 1998,  ASTM 3299, ASME, AWWA, FDA & NSF 61 Conforming standards and specifications for tank manufacturing.

Alternative Fuels... Plastic Tanks are key to maintaining the economies of alternative fuels.. Broad spectrum resistance to a variety of feed stocks, final products and chemicals used to manufacture "Alt" fuels make polyethylene a preferred product when developing the chemical engineering and process design of today's Alternative Fuel Project.

Mixer systems are available from 50 gallons to 15,000 gallons, in a variety of materials and coatings, stainless steel,  carbon steel with hot dipped galvanized  or epoxies and enamel paints.

Chemical storage tanks for acids, caustic storage and petro chemicals are inherently aggressive and their effects on most tank materials need to be considered.

Products available in variety of chemically resistant  materials; Polyethylene, PE, XLPE, HDLPE: Polypropylene PP, PVDF, Stainless steel SS, 304, 316, 316L; GP. ISO, Vinyl Ester: Dual laminate compositions of PVDF, PP, PVC, PE and Fiberglass, Steel CS & Stainless Steel.

Process Design

Tank installations require some basic information to do our best job for you...   Application Data Sheet - Link

A. Definition of Liquid to be stored (MSDS), percentage of chemical concentration, temperature of liquid stored, specific gravity, required maintenance temperature. There is a specific relationship between  chemical temperature and concentration that determines a chemical tank material ability to store a specific liquid.

B. Use our  Chemical Resistance Chart to confirm container material of  construction and chemical its compatibility.

C. Define Tank volume, gallons/liters and desired dimensions if known (Volumes are total, consider freeboard and space )

D. Tank\Vessel configurations include Flat bottom, cone bottom & Open top, rectangular, open top, IBCs, horizontal cylindrical and elliptical, double wall, secondary containment, portables and custom..

E. Specify Tank\Vessel process connections, inlets, outlets, vents, level control floats, level transmitters, level gauges, Expansion joints, overflows, man way access size, Define either Flanges, FNPT (female pipe threads), vatalic couplings, call to discuss.

F. Process connections may require block Valves on outlets, concern for gasket material compatible with liquid, consider expansion joints for vibration

G. Tank - Vessel tie down systems for high wind or seismic events. Local wind and seismic at installation should be arbiter of design requirements.

H. Structural steel platforms, Skids, Mixer bridges, High wind tie down systems, seismic event tie down systems, Pumps skids, System Skids, Pipe support systems.
