Raw product storage, Final product storage tanks,  Processing water wash tanks, Reaction tanks, Neutralization tanks and waste water treatment system tanks.

Plastic, polyethylene and fiberglass are preferred materials for storage tanks, poly up through 140F and fiberglass to 180F; above 180F, we have stainless and carbon steel tank materials.

We suggest contacting local fire officials for permit restrictions on storage of methanol.

Glycerin may be an issue for the same fire official review, depending on your process level of sophistication and the residual amounts of methanol.

UL-142 certified tanks are fit for service for Class 1 Flammables.

Polyethylene tanks are resistant to all aspects of the (low temperature 140 degrees F) bio-diesel manufacturing process.

 Brief description of bio-diesel process

The base catalyst  reaction process. The catalyst splits the oil into glycerin and bio-diesel.

The catalyst may be either a potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide and methanol solution. The mixture of oil and catalyst is kept just above the boiling point of the alcohol to speed up the reaction. Recommended reaction time varies between 2 to several hours. After the separation of the glycerin and biodiesel phases, the excess alcohol is removed by different methods. 

Plastic tanks provide a tremendous reduction in cost and ease of installation   for biodiesel applications below 140 degrees F.
